This statue depicts the Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshwor, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and was meticulously created by Santa Kumar Shakya, a renowned artist officially certified by the government of Nepal. The entire statue is crafted from a refined alloy of red copper, and small amounts of other precious metals. Using the ancient lost-wax casting method to form the base structure, the piece is then entirely hand-chiseled to render intricate patterns on the garments, followed by careful polishing. Adhering to the highest standards of craftsmanship, the statue showcases extraordinary detail and artistry.
The statue features eleven serene faces, rising layer by layer and culminating in the sacred image of Amitabha Buddha at the top — a symbol of ultimate wisdom. A thousand radiant arms extend outward in a harmonious arrangement, each palm revealing a sacred, all-seeing eye. It's one thousand arms radiate outward like beams of light, with many of the palms embedded with sacred eyes — symbols of awakened awareness. Behind the figure, a complexly carved mandorla radiates like an aura of energy. In its many hands, the Bodhisattva holds various ritual objects, including a lotus flower, wish-fulfilling jewel, crystal prayer beads, and a nectar vase. The statue’s golden core and throne stand in striking contrast to the surrounding red copper details. Its lotus pedestal is powerfully upheld by two intricately carved snow lions, whose muscular forms exude a commanding, regal presence.
The figure is adorned in richly decorated garments that drape naturally, with auspicious symbols and Buddhist motifs intricately carved into the fabric. At the center, a pair of hands are joined in front of the chest in Anjali Mudra, a gesture symbolizing reverence, devotion, and unity. One hand holds a blooming lotus flower, while another carries prayer beads. One set of hands holds a bow and arrow. Along the surrounding edge, a series of conch-shell ritual implements are finely carved. Beneath the snow lions, the lotus petals face downward in bloom, with larger petals carved at each corner of the throne. The base layer of the pedestal is adorned with cloud patterns, which converge in the center to form the shape of a vajra, the ritual thunderbolt symbol of indestructible truth.
