Product Description
This exceptional Ghau Locket encapsulates a miniature, vivid Thangka painting of Mahakala, the Great Black One. In Vajrayana Buddhism, Mahakala is a supreme protector deity whose dark, wrathful appearance is not evil, but rather symbolizes his power to swiftly destroy and consume all ignorance, emotional defilements, and hindrances on the path to enlightenment.
Enclosed in a meticulously crafted metal shrine (Ghau), this amulet is designed to bring the continuous, protective vigilance of Mahakala to the wearer. The vibrant, traditional pigments highlight the deity's fierce power and profound commitment to safeguarding the Dharma.
Iconography of Power: What You Carry
The Mahakala depicted in the locket is charged with powerful, transformative symbolism:
-
Dark Blue/Black Body: Symbolizes the vast, all-encompassing nature of his protection, absorbing and purifying all negativity.
-
Three Eyes: Gazing into the past, present, and future, symbolizing his omniscient wisdom and vigilance.
-
Crown of Skulls: Represents the transformation of the five destructive emotions into the five Buddha wisdoms.
-
Tiger Skin Loincloth: Signifies the defeat of desire and pride, granting ultimate freedom.
-
Standing Posture: Represents the immediate and active nature of his protective duty, ready to subdue obstacles instantaneously.

CONSECRATION OF PRODUCT
For requests for consecrations/blessings, we can take the thangka to monasteries or Rinpoches from the nearby Boudha Stupa. We kindly ask you to offer $50 for the monasteries for blessings/consecration services.
Natural Colors in Thangka
All the colors used in the thankgas are made from natural minerals. Ground into pigments, they carry the essence of the earth. Unlike artificial colors, these natural tones shine with honesty, adding depth, life, and spiritual meaning to each canvas.
Ghau Locket Thangka
A Ghau Thangka is a hand-painted, miniature Nepalese Buddhist scroll that is housed in an elaborate metal shrine. It is sometimes spelled Gau or Ghau. The living energy of enlightened deities, including Green Tara, Medicine Buddha, Mahakala, and Guru Rinpoche, is carried by this portable altar, which can be worn as a pendant or held near the heart. In contrast to regular jewellery, each Ghau Thangka is consecrated through ancient rabné (blessing) rituals by a qualified lama. The end effect is a talisman that, wherever you go, exudes healing, protection, and spiritual strength.
