Hand-Painted Four-Armed Mahakala Thangka
This vividly colored thangka, painted on cotton canvas and brocaded with Tibetan silk, displays seven forceful figures drawn from Tibetan Buddhist art. In the middle of it all, a fierce blue-hued god with many arms dances in a ring of fire, representing wisdom and power.
Overhead, a peaceful white figure hangs in meditation. The central deity is flanked by four blue attendants with multiple arms positioned in protective gestures and framed by flames. And below, a giant red figure on horseback represents valiance.
Rich reds, golds and blues are offset by stark black in this piece that features ornate brocade for a truly inspirational piece for meditation or home décor that brings spiritual depth to cultural legacy.
The radiant colors of this thangka are made using finely ground mineral pigments, mixed with traditional glue.
